Cake Decorating

Tonight we had so much fun learning the basics of cake decorating. Sister Ravsten came and showed us the steps, from baking the cake to all the fun ways to decorate it. She is very talented and knows lots of great tips! Thanks so much for teaching us!The girls were excited to start! First you take this, whip it into that, then put it in the bag! The sides are covered first. Even the leaders got in on the fun! Then you smooth it all out, very tricky. This tool made a fun design. We learned how to make the fancy swirlies. Now for the final touches. So many fun ideas! Every cake turned out different.Hey, who gave the baby frosting? :)

Jon Schmidt Concert

On Wednesday we went to a piano concert by a musician by the name of Jon Schmidt. He was amazing. He played with his hands, feet, forearms and whatever else he could manage. This lovely woman is an ambassador for the Rose Center and helps people find their seats. Our youth were treated to a free concert and the youth leaders were lucky enough to get to come along. He gave another concert following and we sold tickets to earn money for the youth programs this summer.

Bread Making

Last week we went to the Johnson's home for a bread making activity. Sis. Johnson taught us about the merits of the bread machine and gave us tips to help make sure our bread turned out right. She taught us to make garlic breadsticks and cinnamon rolls.Another yummy activity and another 2 recipes to add to our growing list!

Cooking Lessons

We've decided to have cooking activities and make a recipe box for each young woman to take with her as she leaves home. This night we made cheater lasagna, salad, garlic bread and cookies. Of course we all like an activity where we get to eat! Yum yum!
Cheater Lasagna
1 lb. ground meat
A jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
1 large bag or 2 small bags of frozen cheese ravioli
Shredded mozzarella OR Italian blend cheese
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Brown the ground meat. If needed, drain off the fat and add the jar of spaghetti sauce. Put a small amount of sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 pan - not much, just enough to coat it. Cover the bottom of the pan with a layer of frozen ravioli. Add a layer of meat sauce. Top with a layer of shredded cheese. Repeat until you have 3 layers of each. Bake for 20-30 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Serves 6-8.

New Beginnings

Last month we had our New Beginnings which is the night we spotlight the new Beehives and welcome them to the program. We talk about Personal Progress and invite the parents so they'll know what's going on. This year we had a beach theme. The girls dressed in value colors and did a fashion show to present the values. They did a wonderful job and looked so great up on our stage runway! After our program we served pina coladas and banana coconut bread. It was a fun night.

Progressive Dinner

In February we had a progressive dinner for our combined activity with the Young Men. Sister Wiseman came along and taught us tips on good manners. We started at the Jenkins' home for appetizers. We had strawberry lemonade, taco dip, and BBQ meatballs. Our next stop was at the Johnson's home for two yummy salads and delicious homemade rolls. Our main course was served at the Dulgarian's home. We had chicken divan, rice pilaf and mixed vegetables. Dessert was served by Sister Schwabl at the church. She made us ice cream sundaes with cute beehive cookies. It was a yummy night!
